Pelham, Ontario
This 7,000 square feet 2 bay fire station, completed in 2014, is located in the west end of the Town of Pelham to extend fire coverage to rural areas of the town. The building includes a large training room, a kitchenette, bunker gear room and various supporting offices. Designed as a volunteer fire station, the fire fighters have their own parking spaces adjacent to a dedicated fire fighters entrance, which has easy access to the bunker gear room to reduce response time. The design team met with the fire department and the town to come up with a residential style design in order to fit into the surrounding context. Being a rural site, the fire station also includes 3 10,000 gallon cisterns for fire fighting purposed with a dry hydrant. A 3,000 gallon cistern is used for portable water and a septic system was installed as municipal services to the site were limited.
