Port Colborne, Ontario
Conceived by the City of Port Colborne as a Design Build Competition, our firm was chosen amongst numerous entries for its successful design entry with a local General Contractor. Completed in 1993, the project contains marine operations such as offices, washrooms, changerooms and a lounge restaraunt, all within a 6000 square feet footprint. The proposed marina is located on Sugarloaf Harbour. The building was conceived to be constructed on concrete piles with lightweight wood framing. The use of wood and the precieved cost savings allowed our firm to design below budget but also explore an aesthetically pleasing nautical theme of an Old Port Town context. The use of wood gave us the ability to appropriately create the history of Port Colborne. The marina has become the "Centre Piece" for the re-development of Sugarloaf Harbour Marina as a friendly pedestrian oriented destination.
